Firmware & updates

The MagWLED web installer supports both boards. Select the model printed on your board before choosing firmware.

MagWLED-1

Choose MagWLED-1 for the ESP32-C3 board. Use the recommended build for its board-specific defaults. The installer also lists alternative builds; read their descriptions before switching.

MagWLED-2

Choose MagWLED-2 for the ESP32-S3 board. Its factory image includes the dual-output defaults, built-in microphone support and INA226 power monitoring. Generic firmware may omit these features or require manual configuration.

Before updating

  1. Back up your WLED configuration and presets while the controller is accessible.
  2. Check the board model and the selected build’s description. MagWLED-1 and MagWLED-2 firmware are not interchangeable.
  3. Use a reliable USB data cable for browser flashing, and follow the installer’s prompts.

Update or factory flash?

An over-the-air update through WLED uses an application firmware file compatible with your board and installed layout. A factory image also writes the bootloader and partition layout; do not upload it as an ordinary OTA update. The MagWLED-2 factory flash resets Wi-Fi settings, so be ready to reconnect and configure Wi-Fi afterward.

Read the installer’s current notes rather than relying on an old version number. If the board will not start or flashing fails, see model-specific troubleshooting or contact support@magwled.com.
